Over-Pronation: What You Need To Know

October 1, 2012 By admin

Running is a hobby taken up by many people across the country, however most runners suffer from pronation problems and therefore stop running all together. Unfortunately they use this first experience of discomfort as an excuse to not carry on. Firstly, they need to learn the do’s and don’ts on running.

Pronation is the medical term referring to the movement and weight distribution of a joint. In our case, it is how the foot distributes weight as a runner cycles through their gait. It is the body’s natural shock absorption process to roll inwards from heel towards big toe as we run or walk, but it is the action of that process in each individual that determines pronation. Pronation is commonly related to the natural profile of our feet.

Three Types of PronationThere are three types: neutral, under- and over- pronation. A neutral pronator, the most efficient type, will transfer from heel to toe with a relatively straight and balanced movement. Under pronators transfer too far to the outside of their feet, and their gait can loosely be described as moving in a bow-legged fashion. [Read more…]

September 25, 2012 By admin

For 30 consecutive days over August and September 2012, Tony ran a half marathon (13 miles) each morning, culminating in his participation in the Great North Run, held in Newcastle, England.

But this isn’t the most interesting thing. No, Tony decided too crazy was a little too boring for his tastes and decided to make a date with insanity instead. He did each and every run with a fridge strapped to his back. An actual fridge! Now, that takes guts and a mountain of stamina. [Read more…]

Continuous Horsepower (“CHP”) is a term used in the treadmill industry for consumer comparison purposes. The CHP rating is measured in laboratory testing using a dynamometer, which measures the mechanical power of the motor. The CHP rating does not denote the operational horsepower of the treadmill in ordinary household use. In ordinary household use, the motor does not operate at the horsepower shown.
